Puggles Swim

Deaf Children Australia is launching Puggles Swim to swimming schools across Australia, to support and include deaf and hard-of-hearing children in learning to swim. This supports our mission to remove barriers to participation for deaf and hard-of-hearing children in society.

Puggles Swim is unique because it can be used to teach both deaf, hard of hearing and hearing kids in a mainstream learn-to-swim class, helping to build inclusive communities.

The Puggles Swim program will upskill swim teachers, arming them with relevant Auslan signs and deaf awareness resources. The curriculum has been developed together with subject matter experts including AUSTSWIM, ASCTA, leading swim instructors and course developers.
The Course provides tools and skills to overlay current learn-to-swim classes with deaf-friendly tactics – allowing swim teachers and swim schools to include deaf or hard-of-hearing children in swim classes. To find out more visit deafchildrenaustralia.org.au/pugglesswim
